Vanessa & Brett

June 2025 Package: Luxe Lily

Their Story

Vanessa and Brett met when they were children. 9-year-old Vanessa chased12-year-old Brett around the hockey rink! At that time, Brett felt Vanessa was “too young” for him.

Many years went by and then in 2019, Brett was delayed at the airport so he logged onto a dating app to kill some time. Vanessa’s profile was a few swipes in, and after matching, the pair started chatting. They remembered each other and Vanessa was excited to have matched with him. She told her best friend that she matched with Brett and proclaimed that she was going to marry him! Matron of Honour Shania shared this story during her speech at the wedding, sharing the text message she received from Vanessa in 2019 (six years of scrolling must have taken Shania a long time!).

While on vacation in Peru, Brett proposed to Vanessa at Machu Picchu.

The Wedding

The Set-Up
My day began with arriving at the Convention Centre and trying to navigate the behind-the-scenes areas. What a huge building! Thankfully there were always staff somewhere near by so I didn’t get lost in the maze of the back area. When I arrived, venue staff had already set up the rooms/areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I started on the decor, welcome table, and confirmed details (for the second or third time, at this point!) with the venue’s Event Manager, Craig. Craig was a pleasure to work with and was very helpful in ensuring everything was set up perfectly. A few minor adjustments were made as there were a few small errors in the set-up; they were quickly fixed and set-up proceeded.

The Ceremony

The ceremony space was in a massive room so a partition was set up to make the space more cozy. While my set-up was less complex than other weddings I’ve done, my step-count was actually higher due to the vast amount of ground I had to cover. To give some perspective, the ‘room’ the ceremony was in is about 1 acre in size! Brett’s Auntie Marilyn was the officiant for this beautiful ceremony in which the couple shared their personal vows. Later, Grandma told me about the ring pillow that had become a family heirloom; it has been used by multiple family members across multiple generations.

The Cocktail Hour

Family photos took place after the ceremony while other guests moved down to the cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed the signature drinks Aperol Spritz and Moscow Mule.

The Reception

MCs Nick and Garrett had the guests entertained with wedding party introductions after the grand entrance. Dinner was served, followed by what was probably one of the most delicious cheesecake I’ve ever had! The brownie chocolate cheesecake was fantastic. (I’m still dreaming about it!) Speeches took place between courses and then it was time for the first dance and family dances. SnapFox Photo Booth arrived to set-up and the DJ kicked off the dance party. Later, heart shaped sunglasses were a fun prop for guests on the dance floor and Chris aka DJ Grand cued up “Sunglasses at Night”. The late night snack energized the dance crew (and me, for clean-up!). At 1:30am, it was time to pack up and complete this wonderful celebration.

Congratulations, Vanessa & Brett!
